HOW TO BUY BITCOIN FROM CASH APP
WHAT IS BITCOIN
Bitcoin is the first and most well known example of a new kind of money called a “cryptocurrency.”
It creates, holds, and transfers value using cryptographic equations and codes to ensure that transactions can only be completed once.
One of Bitcoin’s most important characteristics is that it is decentralized using peer-to-peer technology
meaning no single institution can control the Bitcoin network.
PURCHASE BITCOIN WITH CASH APP
To purchase bitcoin using your Cash App:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Tap Buy BTC
- Select an amount tap … to enter a custom amount
- Enter your PIN and select Confirm
Purchasing bitcoin requires that you have a balance in your Cash App.
You may also need to enter additional geographical information.
SELL BITCOIN WITH CASH APP
To sell bitcoin using your Cash App:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Press Sell
- Select an amount or tap … to enter a custom amount
- Enter your PIN or Touch ID and select Confirm
SENDING AND RECEIVING BITCOIN
You can instantly send bitcoin to any $Cashtag for free, right from Cash App.
To start sending or receiving Bitcoin:
- Toggle from USD to BTC by tapping “BTC” or “USD” on your Cash App home screen.
- Enter at least $1 and tap Pay from your home screen
- Type your recipient’s unique $Cashtag, current phone number, or email address
- Tap Pay
You can also send bitcoin from the Bitcoin tab. To do so:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Tap the Airplane button
- Choose send Bitcoin
- Enter the amount and the recipient’s $Cashtag
You can also send bitcoin to individuals who do not currently have a Cash App account by entering their phone number or email address. They will be prompted to create an account to accept the payment. If they do not create and verify their account within 14 days, the payment will be returned to you.
The minimum amount per transaction to a $Cashtag is 0.00001 BTC or 1,000 sats (Satoshis).
On-Chain Transactions
You can send bitcoin to any wallet using the blockchain.
To do so:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Tap the Airplane button
- Choose send Bitcoin
- Either tap the top left corner of the screen to access the QR code scanner or tap Send to enter the external wallet address manually
- Tap wallet address to confirm
- Tap Next
- Select a withdrawal speed
- Tap Confirm & Send to initiate your withdrawal.
You need to withdraw at least 0.001 bitcoin to make a withdrawal using the Standard withdrawal speed. Rush and Priority withdrawals have no minimum withdrawal amount.
You can also receive bitcoin from any wallet using the blockchain.
To do so:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Tap the Airplane button
- Choose deposit Bitcoin
- Copy or share your Cash App Bitcoin address with an external wallet. You can also scan the QR code for the destination Bitcoin wallet address
Limits
Sending Bitcoin has a few limits to be aware of.
The minimum amount per transaction to a $Cashtag is 0.00001 BTC or 1,000 sats (Satoshis).
Weekly sending limit: $7,500
Weekly receiving limit: $7,500
BITCOIN WITHDRAWALS
You can withdraw Bitcoin from your Cash App to a third-party Bitcoin wallet at any time. To do so:
- Toggle from USD to BTC by tapping “USD” on your Cash App home screen.
- Select Bitcoin
- Enter the amount of Bitcoin you want to withdraw (you can toggle between BTC or USD)
- Either tap the top left corner of the screen to access the QR code scanner or tap Send to enter the external wallet address manually
- Tap wallet address to confirm
- Tap Next
- Select a withdrawal speed
- Tap Confirm & Send to initiate your withdrawal.
If this is your first time withdrawing Bitcoin, you may need to enter some additional personal information before making a withdrawal.
You need to withdraw at least 0.001 bitcoin to make a withdrawal using the Standard withdrawal speed. Rush and Priority withdrawals have a 0.00005 bitcoin minimum withdrawal amount.
DEPOSIT BITCOIN
To deposit Bitcoin into your Cash App:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Press Deposit Bitcoin
- Scan, copy, or share your Cash App Bitcoin address with an external wallet
- Confirm with your PIN or Touch ID
Bitcoin withdrawals and deposits must be enabled to get started. You can deposit up to $10,000 worth of bitcoin in any 7-day period. Depending on network activity, it can take hours before transfers into or out of your Cash App are confirmed on the blockchain.
Cash App only supports Bitcoin (BTC). We do not support any other type of cryptocurrency, including BCH or BSV. Sending non-supported cryptocurrencies will result in loss of funds.
Your wallet address is a unique address that can be used to deposit Bitcoin from a third party to your account. Your wallet address will change after each successful deposit. Check for the most recent address before making a transfer.
To view your current Bitcoin wallet address:
- Tap the Bitcoin tab on your Cash App home screen
- Select View Bitcoin Address
